The Greater Manchester economy generates £57.8 billion of gross value added on an annual basis with 1.27 million people working in Greater Manchester in 109,800 businesses. Greater Manchester has the potential to grow at an average of 2.2% per year between 2015 and 2035, (which would see Greater Manchester grow faster than the UK average) and would generate around 190,000 additional jobs.
Manchester is a centre of excellence in many business sectors, offering you unique career opportunities. There are over 5,000 creative, digital and technology companies in the region, many based at MediaCityUK, the home of the BBC in the north of England. Financial and business services employ over 266,000 people at companies such as BNY Mellon, Barclays, RBS and HSBC. Greater Manchester is home to over 30 NHS organisations so if you are a medical or life science graduate the scope for progression is huge.
Each Greater Manchester university offers a dedicated service to help you get a job and reach and achieve your career goals and aspirations.
The University of Bolton's careers service offers interactive and face-to-face services for job hunting, career planning and graduate schemes.
The University of Salford partners with businesses and organisations from all sectors with most of it's courses offering work placements. You can also access the employability service for career advice and access to job vacancies.
Manchester Metropolitan University's 'My Career Hub' enables you to access careers and employability services online. MMU students and graduates can search for job and placement opportunities, book onto careers events, make appointments with careers staff and ask careers questions.
The University of Manchester Careers Service will support you as a student, and for two years after you graduate. They have have over 7,000 graduate recruiters on campus - more than any other university in the UK. Other services include guidance on career options, 'My future profiler' - to help you identify the skills you need for your career, workshops, courses, work placements and internship opportunities,
