The newly-named University of Bolton Stadium played host to the Ladbrokes Rugby League Semi-Finals for the first time in Challenge Cup history.

Two sold-out, back-to-back matches took place at the University of Bolton Stadium, with over 500,000 fans watching the live BBC TV broadcast between St Helens and Catalans Dragons, plus Warrington Wolves against Leeds Rhinos.

Catalans Dragons beat their opponents 16-35, progressing to the final along with Warrington Wolves, who achieved a 48-12 win over Leeds Rhinos.

As well as the stadium branding, the University of Bolton took advantage of this prestigious event to promote both the university and its sports courses through pitchside advertising.

Rugby Football League Chief Executive, Ralph Rimmer, said:

“The Ladbrokes Challenge Cup is the most prestigious competition in Rugby League and holding two semi-finals in one stadium is another historic moment in its legacy.”
