1) You’re on the way to success

Manchester is the home to world-class Universities that rank high in student satisfaction. We’ve got a history of academic success with big names like Benedict Cumberbatch, Professor Brian Cox and Ben Kingsley studying here. We are a City of firsts and are constantly looking for new ways to be innovating.

2) We celebrate different cultures

Students from around the world come to study in Manchester, in 2016/17 18,670 international students came to study at our four universities, making up a whopping 23% on all students. Our city encourages its residents to embrace diversity and varied cultures, with numerous events, festivals and restaurants celebrating multi-culture. A whole section of the city is dedicated to Asian cuisine - Chinatown. Students from around the world study in Manchester, creating an opportunity for people to come together.

3) You’ll be inspired

Music is a big part of the culture here, with many famous bands formed right here in Manchester, such as Oasis, Joy Division, The Smiths and Buzzcocks. Constant new events, exhibitions, concerts, markets and theatre productions mean that you’ll never be stuck for world-class entertainment and inspiration.

4) Become part of a community

Moving to University can sometimes feel daunting, but don’t worry, in Manchester we are known for being warm and welcoming. Manchester is a big city with plenty to do and see but it also feels small and inclusive - it has a real feel of community and belonging.

5) Come as you are

Part of what makes this city so special is our tolerance and acceptance of others. Manchester has a thriving LGBT+ scene, centred around the world-famous Canal Street. Every year we celebrate Manchester Pride, a four-day event raising funds for LGBT+ community projects in the city.

6) You’ll have the time of your life

You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to nightlife, a wide variety of clubs from underground dance music to commercial party nights. There’s also a huge live music scene from talented rock, indie and alternative musicians. If you prefer a quieter night, there’s plenty of trendy bars and pubs for a relaxed drink.

7) The food is amazing

Manchester is a food paradise, full of restaurants, markets, cafes and delis selling food from all over. We have a wide variety of tasty vegetarian, vegan and organic food, along with a numerous amount of brunch spots. Then there is the famous Northern Quarter, full of trendy eateries serving everything from authentic Italian pizza to American-style burgers.

8) It’s easy to get around

Manchester has more than enough to keep you entertained but it’s not so big that you spend all your time travelling from place to place! Getting around the city and surrounding areas is easy, we have a vast variety of buses, trams and trains available, not forgetting the metroshuttle (a hop on, hop off service). The compact size of the city centre means that walking is a popular choice for many.

9) You can easily leave (if you really wanted to)

We are in a great location if you are looking to explore, there are several exciting places a little over an hour away. Including Liverpool (the hometown of the Beatles) and the Historic city of York, we are also surrounded by stunning countryside. Manchester Airport is just over 20 minutes from the city centre, if you travel by train or car. Thanks to the ever-increasing number of flights, a beach holiday is always an option.

Manchester has plenty of exciting internships opportunities and work placements to help you gain the experience you need!
