Salford University Graduate Joseph Kindred is taking the DJing world by storm after signing to some of the biggest names in house and techno music.

Better known by his industry name Jozef K, he has tracks set to be released with the likes of Waze & Odyssey, Sasha and DJ Pierre, and plays an all-night set at Manchester’s underground dive bar, South, this Friday.

During his time at Salford, Joseph landed the role of resident DJ at the world famous Sankey’s, but he says his passion for music began long before his student days;

"My mum told me I used to cry watching the opera when I was a baby, I have always been moved by music! I have been on a musical journey of discovery and creation as long as I can remember.”

Shock Radio

Studying Professional Sound and Video Technology at Salford massively impacted Joseph’s career: “Kelvin Brown was our MIDI lecturer, who was awesome. I use a lot of the knowledge he passed on to me to this day, he’s also a wicked DJ.”

As a student, Joseph also had his own show on Shock Radio: “It was a techno show called 'The Set’, I used to love it. One time I gave a shout out to a girl on the show (romantic, I know right?) and my Dad embarrassed me about it for weeks. Haha.”

Joseph has come a long way since his first set at Sofa-a bar off Oxford Road (now Font). His work has been supported by world-famous DJs such as Pete Tong and has allowed him to perform across the world, with tours in China, USA, Indonesia and across Europe; including summer residences in Ibiza.

This Friday’s all-nighter is something that Joseph is really looking forward to: “I have always wanted to do an all night long set, I’ve secretly been waiting for a producer to ask me to do one for so long!

On a journey

“My whole concept is the journey, playing different moods and feelings according to the atmosphere. So being able to do this for 6 hours straight will be perfect as I can really build something instead of cramming everything into 2 hours.

A spokesperson for the event said: “After a recent slew of signings by the likes of Sasha, DJ Pierre and countless others, and Jozef's globally-renowned DJ abilities, we are excited indeed for 6 hours of Jozef K.”

So what does the future hold? “I’ve got some really exciting things coming up though, with releases on Sasha’s Last Night on Earth, DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid and Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks.”

However, it isn’t all about the partying: “I just really like sitting in my studio all day and drinking cups of tea with nobody to answer to. I love making music and I love a simple life so it really is blissful at times.”
